Promoter Gary Shaw has serious doubts about Danny Green's desire to rematch IBO cruiserweight champion Antonio Tarver in the fall. Tarver stopped Green in nine rounds last month to capture the IBO title in Sydney, but there is a rematch clause in their contract and the Australian star recently held a press conference to announce his intention of exercising that clause.
"Won't happen, no," Shaw told The Daily Telegraph. "Danny Green won't fight Antonio Tarver because Danny Green doesn't wanna fight Antonio Tarver. It's exactly why he's started talking up a fight in the States."
Shaw is confident that Sydney, Australia, according to the contract terms, would have to be the location of choice for the rematch.
"That was the detail should there be a rematch, that everything was the same,'' Shaw said. "So the best way Danny Green can assure that doesn't happen is to say he now wants to fight in the United States. Danny Green couldn't beat Antonio Tarver at home. How's he going to beat him in America?"
