Satanmuanglek CP Freshmart remains undefeated and added a new title to his collection in Bangkok this afternoon. The former Muay Thai champion is now the ABF 108lbs champion after stopping Indonesian Thomas Hurek in the sixth round.
Before the fight Knockout CPFreshmart was introduced in the ring and Satanmuanglek will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the reigning WBA 105lbs champion, who successfully defended his belt in China last weekend.
The 25 year old made a slow start against the tall, rangy Indonesian. In the second round Satanmuanglek started to score with right hooks to the body at close quarters although he found himself on the receiving end of his opponent’s stiff jab.
Hurek was undefeated coming into this contest, albeit inexperienced and he started to swing for the fences in the third, although Satanmuanglek was able to easily evade his wild punches. The Thai then trapped him in the corner and started to score with combinations to the body and head.
In the fourth both fighters took it in turn to bang to the body from close quarters. The following round saw Hurek warned for leading with the head before they traded body shows with Satanmuanglek landing a series of hooks and uppercuts right before the bell.
The sixth saw a slight change of pace with Satanmuanglek starting to jab more. The strategy proved successful and he was able to work from mid range and set up some right hands, boxing with much more efficiency than he had in the earlier rounds.
However while Satanmuanglek’s strategy in the earlier rounds might have been crude it ultimately proved effective. The body work had taken its toll on Hurek and a hard right hook to the midsection followed by a glancing left upstairs put him down for a count he never looked like beating.
The win takes Satanmuanglek to 8-0 and he is now the ABF 108lbs champion, as well as the WBC Asia 108lbs champion. Hurek drops to 2-1-1 but will almost certainly be invited back to Thailand for future fights on the basis of this performance.
Palangpon CP Freshmart (16-2) who challenged unsuccessfully for the WBO 108lbs record padded his record with a decision win over Muay Thai fighter Abdulvosid Buranov (0-3). The man from Tajikistan was resilient but totally outmatched.
There was also a win for Petch CPFreshmart (47-0) who stopped Yodkuntap Por Pakdee in the second round. The 24 year old is long overdue a matchup against a ranked contender in the bantamweight division.
