Former multi-division champion Robert Guerrero (33-3) is just a few days away from facing former super lightweight champion Danny Garcia (31-0) for the vacant WBC welterweight title.  The fight takes place at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles and will be televised on Fox as part of the  series.

Guerrero had a rough 2015 going 1-1.  His last ring appearance was in June when he pulled out a split decision over Aron Martinez.  Prior to that he lost an unanimous decision to Keith Thurman.

After losing to Guerrero, Martinez went on to pull off a major upset over former two-division champion Devon Alexander in October.  Martinez's next ring appearance is on Guerrero's undercard against unbeaten upstart Sammy Vasquez.

Guerrero advises Vasquez not to overlook Martinez and his deceiving record.

"They don't give him enough credit. He was an alternate on the Olympic team. He is one of those guys that always gets the late call for a fight.  Now that he is able to get really prepared and have the proper time and proper training - you saw what he did against Alexander and he had a tremendous fight against me.  That is why I don't make excuses.  He came and fought hard. He beat Devon Alexander and now he is the semi main event on the 23rd so a lot of credit to him," explained Guerrero.

The 33-year-old Guerrero said that in a way he is glad that he struggled against Martinez.  He said that helped him review what he was doing to prepare for his fights and expects a bounce back performance against Garcia.

"I am kind of happy the way that fight went because it kind of made me step back and assess my training regiments and everything I have to do.  I had a great camp now. I had better sparring. The break I have had has given me time to think and reassess my career. The break did me a lot of good," Guerrero told krikya360.com.
