Trainer Freddie Roach will be a busy man this Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Not only will he be working the corner of welterweight Frankie Gomez (who faces Mauricio Herrera), but he will also be guiding Glen Tapia who takes on former IBF middleweight titlist David Lemieux.
Both of those fights are part of the Saul Alvarez vs. Amir Khan HBO pay-per-view undercard.
For Tapia, who's competed as a junior middleweight for much of his career, Roach says the move up in weight helps the muscular boxer from New Jersey, who comes in with a record of 23-2 (15 KO's).
"He is so happy right now, he doesn't have to make weight,"explained Roach."He says,'I feel so good and I can still go eat.' He's on a strict diet but he's eating very well."
In Lemieux, Roach says they are facing - "a great puncher, it's something we have to watch for. Glen can punch but the thing is I want him to go out there and out-box this guy. I think if you fight this guy smart - you beat him. But if you want to trade with him, you risk going 50-50 and I don't want the 50-50. I want Glen to box him and beat him all night."
Tapia is coming off a fourth round TKO defeat to Michel Soro from last May, while Lemieux will attempt to bounce back from his tenth round TKO defeat middleweight king Gennady Golovkin last October.
