Ramon Alvarez (25-6-3) closed the show strong in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México to extract revenge over Johnny Navarrete (33-10-2) in their super welterweight bout. The fight was a rematch of their September 2nd encounter that ended in a split draw.

This was Alvarez’s second fight since a shock second round knock out loss to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s younger brother on April 29th.

Navarrete started off the fight strong but couldn’t keep up his momentum in the second half of the fight. Álvarez ate a few shots early on as he started to time his rival but it wasn’t long before he found his rhythm.

Ramón, who is Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez’s older brother, picked up steam in the middle rounds to seal the deal. The final scores read 97-93, 99-91 and 98-92. Zanfer Promotions put on the card that was televised by BEIN Sports in the United States.

Alvarez was fighting in his hometown of Guadalajara. The 31-year-old Alvarez gets back to winning after having only won once in his last four bouts.

His most notable bout of 2017 came on Apr. 27 when he was stopped by Omar Chavez in the second round.

Navarette is winless in his last four bouts, including the draw to Alvarez on Sept. 2. Navarette, who hails from San Juan Zitlaltepec, Mexico, has fought two other times in 2017, losing to unbeaten Custio Clayton and Jaime Munguia.

IN OTHER NEWS: Liam Conroy successfully defended his English light-heavyweight belt with a ninth-round stoppage win over Chris Hobbs on Friday night.

Cumbria’s Conroy was making the first defence of his national strap, taking on Southampton’s Hobbs at The Venue in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In a bout scheduled for 10, the 25-year-old champion began to gradually take control of a competitive clash after the midway point.

With Hobbs already cut by his left eye, Conroy forced the stoppage in the penultimate round as referee Terry O’Connor stepped in at 2mins 55secs of the ninth as the champion improved his record to 15-13-1 (7KOs).
