Mexico City, Mexico - A battle of former champions saw Cristian Mijares (47-6-2, 21 KOs) stop Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KOs) in the ninth round. After staggering Marquez with a hard bomb in the ninth, Mijares unloaded against the ropes as the referee jumped in to wave off the contest. The 37-year-old Marquez had promised to retire from the sport if he lost the match to Mijares.
Former flyweight champion Edgar Sosa (47-7, 28 KOs) barely had enough in the tank to grab a ten round majority decision over Myung Ho Lee (15-3, 5 KOs). The scores were 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95.
