WBA Light Heavyweight Titlist Dmitry Bivol defended his belt in a technical fight against Joe Smith Jr., and Maurice Hooker retained his WBO Lightweight Title after going the distance with Mikkel LesPierre who hit the canvas once. Callum Johnson, with his eyes on a title shot, stopped Sean Monaghan in three rounds with a dominant performance in a Light Heavyweight battle.
Bivol, 28, was in control from the outset in New York, claiming a unanimous decision win to retain his title and improve to a 16-0 record.
Bivol was untroubled by Smith (24-3), the judges scoring the fight 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110 in his favour.
Smith tried to be aggressive early, but he struggled to land much of note in the opening rounds.
Instead, it was Bivol in control, and he did some damage to the right eye of Smith.
Already in command, Bivol landed a flurry of big blows in the seventh round after a hard jab.
An increasingly frustrated Smith then threw Bivol to the canvas after the fighters came together in the ninth round.
Smith managed to land a huge right at the end of the 10th, but Bivol's win was never in doubt.
