Former two division champion Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi (33-7, 7 KOs)admits that he may never fight again, after getting stopped in nine rounds by Danny "Swift" Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN. The fight took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The loss was the second consecutive stoppage defeat for Malignaggi, who was coming back from a long layoff after suffering a brutal knockout at the hands of Shawn Porter.
"Probably not," said Malignaggi with respect to fighting again. "You hate to make an emotional decision. My career started in Brooklyn 14 years ago. If it ends in Brooklyn tonight, at least I ended it a home, in front of my fans, the best fans in the world. I was happy to do it in front of you guys. I'm sorry I didn't win, I lost to a great champion tonight."
Maligaggi had "no problem" with the referee's stoppage. He said he was unable to change the pace of the fight and admits Garcia was breaking him down in the second half of the fight.
For the future he wants to concentrate on his commentating career.
