Middleweight contender Martin Murray is still steaming made over the recent fight withdrawal of WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders.

The two were initially set to fight on April 14, and then Saunders withdrew with a claimed injury. The contest was rescheduled for June 23, and Saunders withdrew once again, with another injury that he claimed to sustained in training camp.

However, it was revealed last week on krikya360.com that Saunders had accepted an offer to fight WBC, WBA, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin on August 25th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

The fight with Saunders was only a backup option for Golovkin, who eventually reached an agreement for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez for September 15th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Murray got lucky - as promoter Frank Warren was able to secure a late replacement in durable Roberto Garcia.

The return of Saunders is now in limbo.

Murray is convinced that Saunders fabricated the injury in order to free himself for a potential fight with Golovkin in August.

Because of the withdrawals, Murray lost a lot of money on training expenses and he's also been away from home for several months since the initial training camp began for the original April date.

"It was definitely a fake injury," Murray told Nick Parkinson.

"I went away to Tenerife for both training camps, so I lost time with the family which I will never get back but that's what happens when you're trying to do a deal with a d*ckhead. He didn't have an injury, he wasn't in the gym, he was hoping to fight Golovkin instead in August, but I don't think he's got the balls to fight Golovkin or Canelo.

"I don't think Golovkin will be that bothered about fighting Saunders now because he will not be able to unify the four belts."
