Copenhagen, Denmark - 45-year old super middleweight veteran Lolenga Mock, 10-0 since coming back late 2015, outscored Roman Shkarupa, 27-7-2, over ten hard-fought rounds in the main event. It was a typical Mock fight, very physical, hard work and steady pressure. Shkarupa, a tough capable, strong but a bit slow fighter, started slowly but had some good rounds in rounds four and five but then Mock upped the pace further and Shkarupa couldn´t keep it up and was outworked. The judges had it 99-91, 99-92 and 96-94 all for "the Dane".
Next up is Dmitri Chudinov on November 25. Fighting opponents at this level and fighting so often is almost unheard of in modern day boxing but Mock is doing it.
Heavyweight Pierre Madsen stopped Tamas Laska 53 seconds into the first round. Laska, looking quite overweight, appeared to be hurt by bodyshots and showed no interest in fighting and it was quickly waved over.
Super lightweight Enock Poulsen, 6-0, outscored durable Czech Michal Dufek, 22-16-1, over eight foulfilled and uneventful rounds of boxing. Dufek´s face was mask of blood in some rounds due to cuts and a heavy nosebleed. Dufek´s was dangerous with his head, so dangerous that he had points deducted in both the seventh and eighth. Poulsen on his part was too eager and there was a lot of wrestling and accidental headclashes. It was scored 80-70 on all cards.
It was a classic prospect vs ex champ matchup as cruiser Detlef "D-struct" Rossing took on former WBA champ Valery Brudov in an eight-rounder. Brudov looked every bit old and faded but proved to be a cagey veteran and while Rossing built an early lead Brudov came on as the young upstart faded. Rossing tried to pace himself but was in some trouble in the last round when he threw a big right hand swing and it hurt Brudov who staggered backwards and then held. But Rossing had seen the light and kept going with that right and Brudov´s left eye was cut and swollen and he probably didn´t see the punches coming. The scoring appeared to be a bit out of line as one judge had it 80-72 for Rossing, another 77-75 for Brudov while the third had it 78-74 for Rossing (as did I).
Light heavyweight Jeppe Morell, 8-1, beat Frenchman Maurice Possiti, 17-12, over eight on scores of 79-73 twice and 80-72. The first time they fought Possiti floored Morell twice in the early rounds and won the fight but this time around Morell showed he had learned how to smother his opponent and avoid his dangerous right. Morell worked at a fast pace, moved in close scoring with short bursts of punches. Possiti had a good fourth when he landed with a solid right upercut against his southpaw opponent and Morell was staggered but kept himself together and outworked Possiti down the stretch even hurting him in the dying seconds of the last round.
This may have set up a fight against IBF Baltic champ Sven Fornling November 25 but Morell picked up a cut along the way so this fight is far from certain.
18-year old super lightweight Oliver Meng impressed in his debut with a points win over Spaniard Iriome Penate, 3-1-2, Penate was down in the first, second and at the end of the fourth and final round but still made a fight of it as he kept coming and had his best round in the fourth when stunned by a short right. Meng jumped on his opponent and floored him with a barrage of punches as the bell rang. It was scored 40-33 on all cards.
Light heavyweight Jonas "Tiger" Madsen, 11-0, outscored experienced Georgian George Beroshvili, 29-20-2, over eight. It was scored 80-71 on all cards. Beroshvili was down in the final round but wasn´t hurt. Madsen, as always, worked hard but failed to find the range and Beroshvili was dangerous throughout with his hooks and wild swings from both hands.
Female featherweight Sarah Mahfoud, 4-0, outscored Romanian Gabriella Meszei, 8-11-2, over six. It was scored 60-54 twice and 59-55 for "the Dancing Queen".
Light heavy Tobias Soerig, 4-1-1, returned after an injury related layoff, looked perfectly fit and took on Georgian Soso Abuladze, 13-7-1, over four in the show opener of this Danish Fight Night show at Frederiksberghallerne. Abuladze soft and it was like a cruiserweight vs a super middleweight, but once Abuladze found the range with his hooks it became a wild shootout where Soerig was caught time and time again by left and right hooks while leaving himself wide open after throwing big right uppercuts.
Soerig was down in the first, badly shaken in the second but then tightened up his defence a little to make it closer. Abuladze bled badly from the nose after those uppercuts and tired a bit as well but was an upset winner at the end on scores of 39-36, 38-37 and 39-36.
