Edison 'Pantera' Miranda is in his final days of training camp and will be on his way to Las Vegas tomorrow in preparation for his July 29th main even fight on ESPN2. Miranda is coming off his first light heavyweight fight and ready to step up the competition against a tough Cuban fighter by the name of Yordanis Despaigne. Despaigne showed a very promising armature career by defeating top names like Jean Pascal and Tomasz Adamek and fighting to a tough one point loss to Andre Direll. He was one of the top prospects at light heavyweight building a perfect 8-0 record until facing his first professional loss to another great prospect, Ismayl Sillakh. Despaigne has blamed severe cuts during this bout for his loss and wants to prove to the world that he has what it takes to compete with the best at 175lbs.
Miranda also has much to prove at his new weight. "I feel great at 175lbs. I can finally work hard on boxing during my training camp and not have to worry about losing weight. I have always felt strong in the gym until I had to struggle to lose the final 10-15lbs. Now, I don't have to worry about losing muscle to make weight." says Miranda. He knows he needs to make a big splash in his first televised USA bout at light heavyweight. "I am ready to prove to the world that Edison Miranda is back. Everyone saw what happened to David Banks when I came back at 168lbs. I am even stronger at 175lbs. I have asked the Nevada Boxing Commission to lay pads around the outside of the ring. If Despaigne's big head doesn't stop him from going through the ropes then the pads will be his only hope"
Miranda's trainer, Noel 'Chico' Carbajal agrees with Edison's thoughts. "I have known Edison for many years and worked with him for other fights. This is my first big fight with him as head trainer. I can honestly say I have never seen him in this kind of shape. He keeps telling me he wants to destroy this guy and is as focused as ever. I have studied Despaigne's style. He is a very good fighter, but he makes mistakes. We have been working on taking advantage of these mistakes. With as much power as Edison has shown at this weight, I predict a knockout win for Edison."
