Mikael Lawal is set to put his British cruiserweight title on the line against fit-again Isaac Chamberlain early this summer.
Undefeated Lawal won the belt by beating David Jamieson at Alexandra Palace in November but is yet to make his first defense.
Chamberlain, meanwhile, has not boxed since he suffered a broken orbital bone during a unanimous decision defeat to Chris Billam Smith in July.
However, krikya360.com understands that talks are well underway to match Lawal and Chamberlain in a UK clash in April or May.
In a circular last month, the British Boxing Board of Control ordered a purse bid for the contest which is due next week, with the fight then obliged to take place before the end of July, although it could be much sooner than that.
Lagos-born Lawal is a resident of Shepherd’s Bush, west London while Chamberlain is born and bred in Brixton in the south of the capital.
But there is every chance this London derby may land on a Boxxer card in the north of the country depending on the result of the purse bid.
Chamberlain, 28, said: “I want Mike Lawal for the British title, get straight back into it. Then I would love to have a rematch with Chris in the future.”
