Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Las Vegas - In a battle of heavyweight giants, world title challenger Michael Grant (47-4, 35KOs), 6'7 and 252-pounds, knocked out Tye Fields (45-3, 41KOs), 6'8 and 278-pounds, in the third round.
The first round was fought at a very cautious pace by both. In the second, Fields left himself wide open for Grant's right hands. At one point Fields was stunned but Grant never went for the kill. Fields came back in the same round to stun Grant against the ropes. The veteran used the ring to avoid any follow-up combinations from Fields.
During the third round, Fields' lack of a defense came back to haunt him for a second time, but this time Grant landed a huge right hand that sent Fields down on his back and almost out. Fields struggled to make it up and never really made it. It was clear that Fields was unable to continue and referee Joe Cortez waved it off.
