McWilliams Arroyo (15-2, 13 KOs), who recently lost a split decision in his first title shot in September with IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (14-0, 5 KO's), hopes to return in January 2015 and one of the possible opponents mentioned to him is former champion Giovani Segura (32-4-1, 28 KO's) of Mexico.
After losing to Ruenroeng in Thailand, his team filed an appeal with the IBF, which the sanctioning body rejected.
"We are going to fight for another sanctioning body because the appeal was unsuccessful and the champion has nine months to fight the number one contender and that's a long time. We will not wait and so I'll be back in January. Several names, including Segura, was mentioned. I understand that at the end of December I'll be told something. We are in full training, helping McJoe for his fight on December 20," Arroyo said.
