Hard hitting Lucas Matthysse will be taking on Humberto Soto as the co-feature this Saturday night at the Staples Center which will air live on Showtime.
Matthysse's career mostly took place in his country of Argentina but in his last 2 fight in the United States, many felt he deserved decision victories over Devon Alexander and Zab Judah. Instead, he was awarded two losses and will be returning to fight on US soil this Saturday for the first time since.
Matthysse was on the latest edition of BoxingScene's official radio show The Boxing Lab and discussed if he was still worried about being able to get a decision in the United States.
"Soto is a good boxer. I'm not confident [in getting a decision]. Both of us aren't from the US but he's made a good part of his career here. I've trained very well and I will win by knockout" promised Matthysse.
The two losses to Judah and Alexander took a lot of steam out of Matthysse's sails as he went from being an undefeated fighter with a terrific knockout percentage, to being a guy with two losses against two recognizable names. Lucas is looking to stake his claim as a top 140 pound fighter with a win over Soto and he also doesn't want to leave it in the judges hands.
"Yes, the fights with Judah and Alexander are fights that should've gone to me but here in the US, its difficult to win if you're not from here. But this is a good fight for me. A good opportunity to demonstrate once again I'm a top level fighter. I will try to look for the knockout so the same thing from before doesn't happen to me again" said Matthysse.
