Earlier today, Francisco Espinoza, who is part of Antonio Margarito’s management team, spoke to krikya360.com regarding the recent reports of his charge’s decision to vacate the WBO 147-pound title.
Espinoza, who is based in Southern California, said, “Tomorrow (Friday), our team will meet with Top Rank to go over the offers on the table and decide what is best for Antonio at this stage of his career. We will then decide if we are giving up our belt.”
Espinoza continued, “Those days of fighting for peanuts are over as Antonio has been in very tough fights and has proven his worth. We are now looking for the fights that will bring us the most financial benefit.”
In regards to WBO mandatory challenger Paul "The Punisher" Williams, Espinoza stated, “We are not avoiding anyone or are afraid of this guy Williams. He is actually an easier fight than the Cotto one as he is a tall fighter with a very lean body who can’t really punch and is very inexperienced.” Espinoza added.
“The thing that is holding this up is because we want to make sure that Antonio is getting the biggest money fight available. Once we clear everything up tomorrow, a decision will be made and everyone will be informed of what Margarito will be doing regarding his championship belt."
