Former champion Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28KOs) advised krikya360.com that he plans to remain in the welterweight division from this point forward.
On September 15th, Maidana will have his hands full with Jesus Soto Karass (26-7-3, 17KOs) on the Saul Alvarez-Josesito Lopez undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Showtime will televise the fight.
"They offered me the fight at 147 with Soto Karass. I like the fight and I took it. I think I will stay at welterweight and look for a title at welterweight," Maidana told krikya360.com.
When the two fighters faced off at the recent press conference to announce their fight, Soto Karass was visibly bigger than Maidana. The Argentine slugger is not worried about the size difference, and he plans to stand and trade with the Mexican brawler.
"I'm not worried at all about [his size]. I know the opponents at welterweight are going to be bigger than me but that's going to get me to prepare a little harder for those kind of guys," Maidana said.
"We're going to stand in front of each other and exchange punches and give the fans a great fight."
