Premier Boxing Champions recently announced that former super welterweight title challenger Erickson Lubin (20-1) will face Zakaria Attou (29-6-2) on the Jermall Charlo-Brandon Adams undercard.
The fight will serve as the co-featured bout of the evening and will be televised by Showtime. Eduardo Ramirez will face Claudio Marrero to round out the tripleheader.
The fight will be Lubin's second under the guidance of world class trainer Kevin Cunningham. They are currently in Southern Florida at Camp Cunningham preparing for the fight.
The division has seen its share of upsets over the past few months. In December Tony Harrison handed Jermell Charlo his first defeat and in March Brian Castaño defeated Erislandy Lara. Another big upset occurred this past Saturday when Julian Williams dropped and won an unanimous decision over the then unbeaten Jarrett Hurd.
"I think the junior middleweight division is the most competitive division in boxing. Hurd, Charlo, Williams, Harrison, Lubin, (Austin) Trout, Lara, (Terrell) Gausha, Castaño, (Carlos) Adames and (Jaime) Munguia. A division that could produce great matchups for the next few years," Cunningham told krikya360.com.
Lubin is still only 23-year-old and hasn't hit his prime yet. Cunningham believes that after two more fights his fighter will ready for another world title shot.
"We’re focused on the French champion Attou for June 29th. After that I think the winner of Trout-Gausha would be a great match up with Lubin. Then anybody with a belt can get it!" Said Cunningham.
In his last bout Lubin became the first fighter to stop former champion Ishe Smith. He has won 2 fights in a row since losing to then WBC super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo.
