New York - Gennadiy "GGG" Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KO’S) and Canelo Alvarez will forever be linked for their two controversial fights.

Both fighters signed lucrative deals with streaming service DAZN and were pegged to fight each other in September, but the talks fell apart. Canelo (52-1-2, 35 KO’s) then turned his eyes to his IBF Middleweight title mandatory defense against Sergey Derevyanchenko (13-1,10 KO’s). That fight fell apart as well, and Canelo was stripped of the title.

On October 5th inside Madison Square Garden, Golovkin and Derevyanchenko will fight for the vacant IBF title, in the main event of a card carried by DAZN.

Canelo, who has little interest in facing Golovkin for a third time, is looking at a possible fight at 175-pounds with WBO champion Sergey Kovalev.

Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions, helped build Golovkin into a household boxing name - and he believes that its time for move on from Canelo.

"He wasn't and hasn't been distracted with what Canelo has said," Loeffler told krikya360.com. "We can't be worried about it. We've chased Canelo in the past and we've gotten him twice. A lot of people forgot that he vacated a title, the first world champion from Mexico to vacate a world title. We've gotten him twice. We couldn't get him now in September but Gennadiy is focused on moving on and starting his second championship run."

Golovkin and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport announced a partnership moving forward. Hearn will be involved with promoting events for GGG Promotions. Loeffler feels that this new deal will open doors for big fights.

"Eddie is complimenting the team," Loeffler said. "Triple G is one of the most established boxers in the world. We've sold out MSG, The Forum, The O2 Arena, and T-Mobile Arena a couple of times. Adding Eddie to the team opens the door for more opponents and more shows for GGG Promotions and his fighters. We look at it as an partnership that benefits both sides."

Loeffler also sees the deal as opening the market in the United Kingdom against the likes of Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith.

"Sure, it opens the door for the UK fights as well, it was a key component for it," explained Loeffler. "Michael Buffer will be announcing and we know Gennadiy has a good relationship with him and there's added value on both sides because frankly, Gennadiy is the biggest name Eddie has worked with over the years."

Loeffler also wanted to dispel any rumors about not being involved with GGG Promotions.

"I'm still here. A lot of people think we just started GGG Promotions. GGG Promotions was started 3 years ago. The Canelo fights and the Danny Jacob fights were with GGG Promotions so we've done a lot of the big events so its not like we've just started. We're looking for Eddie to compliment what we've already established," Loeffler said.
