While David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) faces Marco Reyes on Saturday night as part of the HBO pay-per-view undercard at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he says he has ''unfinished business'' with Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), who took his IBF middleweight title in October of 2015 by stopping him in eight rounds.
Lemieux is coming off a highlight reel stoppage of Curtis Stevens on March 11th. Yes, he wants another crack at the the middleweight ruler. So what would change the second time around?
"I know the adjustments to be made to be able to beat a guy like that. He's a human being, he's a great fighter but he's a human being," said Lemieux. "Everybody has weaknesses, everybody has strengths. I know my strengths and I have a lot of confidence in my strengths and I have a lot of confidence in my strengths when I fight a guy like 'Triple G'
"But I never underestimate or downgrade him, it will never be an easy fight against him but he's beatable. So it's a challenge. So it's a challenge I give myself personally. I think the fans would love it in the near future when that fight comes up for me to prove myself that I'm the best."
When asked if the first encounter - which came right after he won this title against Hassan N'dam - had come too soon for him, Lemieux answered:
"No, I can't regret anything. I don't say it came too soon. I took it right away, I was ready to beat him, I was ready. It's not about if I was ready or not. It's about my adjustments to be made and now I know what adjustment need to be made against a guy like that. So it's not that I wasn't ready or not ready. It's about what I need to adjust to beat a guy like that."
His manager, Camille Estephan, told krikya360.com that a rematch is feasible:
"Certainly, we want Golovkin, (Miguel) Cotto, the winner of the fight in the main event (Saul Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr), but we've got to take care of Reyes first. We're not taking him lightly."
