Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions have revealed that they have secured a co-promotional deal for Lee Haskins’s maiden IBF bantamweight defence against Ivan Morales (29-1, 17 early), brother of living Mexican legend Erik, as well as inking a TV deal with Channel 5. Haskins (32-3, 14 KO) will meet Morales at Cardiff’s Ice Arena on May 14.

Haskins, 32, won the belt courtesy of a sixth-round TKO win over Ryosuke Iwasa in his hometown of Bristol last year. Chris Sanigar, his manager and trainer, will also play a part in the promotion. It is Morales's first fight outside of Mexico and the U.S. The 24-year-old's sole defeat was a majority decision reverse to Edgar Jimenez, who has 11 losses on his record but was in good form going into the encounter.

McGuigan revealed the news at a press conference earlier today and had previously told BoxingScene about his “excitement” over his new venture. The former featherweight champion will promote at least three shows on the terrestrial TV channel this year with more to follow in 2017. The deal does not extend to IBF Super bantamweight holder Carl Frampton, though.

The “Clones Cyclone” also told me that undefeated prospect Andrew Selby, brother of IBf featherweight titlist Lee, may fight for the British flyweight title, which is currently vacant and awaiting a new owner following Charlie Edwards’s decision not to enter into purse bids for a fight against the Barry-based boxer.

If a British title shot is sanctioned by the Board, Selby will fight for the belt after only four fights (3 of his wins have come by stoppage)

Further fights will be added to the bill, which also features Josh Taylor, and Spike TV will show the undercard, as has been the norm for recent Channel 5 fight nights.
