WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is not looking at September 15th as a competition of Mexican stars. Chavez and his Mexican rival, WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, will headline separate events in Las Vegas.

Chavez will defend his title against Sergio Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center, and Canelo will face Josesito Lopez at the MGM Grand.

"This is not a personal issue. I do not compete for ratings because this is not a duel of egos. I believe that people who really know boxing are going to know which fight to [watch] and which fight is worth something," Chavez said.

"When someone talks about history, Canelo will not be remembered. He is simply dedicated to being an artist, to fight boxers from lower weight divisions and he isn't concerned about boxing."

"Boxing has given everything to Canelo. Although he is famous, boxing has given him everything that he has. He lacks respect for the fans, because he is focused on other things."

Chavez, in his opinion, says Canelo is more focused on gaining media attention and becoming popular and not concerned with building a boxing legacy.

"The most important thing to me, is to win this fight [against Martinez], because that will place me in the boxing history books, and that is more important for me and the people who are with me," Chavez said.
