Josesito Lopez came up short in his fight against Marcos Maidana as he was stopped late in the 6th round of an entertaining fight. After landing and hurting Maidana earlier in the contest, it was Lopez who would go down in the 6th round and was stopped on his feet as the referee called a stop to the action. While Lopez gave Maidana his proper credit, he felt the fight was stopped prematurely.

“It was a good tough fight just like we expected. I felt good in the ring. I felt comfortable in the ring. I'm a little uncomfortable with the decision of the stoppage. He caught me with a good punch, nothing to deny but definitely not something to stop a fight over especially with two known warriors that fight themselves out of situations like that. I'm very, very displeased with the stoppage. I wish the ref would've let me fight my way out of it” expressed Lopez.

Lopez covered up while against the ropes as Maidana unloaded which is what prompted the referee to step in. Josesito was asked if he felt he maybe should’ve take a knee to allow some time to recover but he didn’t feel he needed to.

“Not necessarily. I felt like either I could cover up well enough or slip my way out. But if at any point I felt like I needed to take a knee, I think I have the experience enough to know when to take one” said Josesito.

Even in defeat, Lopez gave a good account of himself as he controlled rounds with his combination punches and even hurt Maidana in the process. It turned out to be the fire fight we all were expecting but Lopez simply wasn’t satisfied with the results.

“I'm not happy with stoppage man. It sucks. I hate losing first of all but when a decision is out of my hands, when I feel like I can keep on fighting, I'm very displeased with that”.

Lopez plans to take two weeks off and get right back into the gym as he and his team will also discuss what’s next for him after this.
