In front of a crowded Convention Center of the Hotel Azul Ixtapa, in the beautiful tourist destination of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, world ranked Jhonny Gonzalez beat the elusive Dominican Marlyn 'Maravilla' Cabrera in the seventh defense of his World Boxing Council regional crown.
The event that was broadcast throughout Mexico through the Televisa Deportes.
Triple world champion Gonzalez was aggressive against the Antillean fighter who preferred to keep his distance from the big shots of the Mexican.
From the beginning, the fight showed an ambitious Jhonny looking for the combination that made the difference against the elusive Central American fighter who simply based his strategy on not stopping to exchange punches to avoid getting knocked out.
Jhonny's well-educated left-hand wreaked havoc on Marlyn, who showed a granite resistance to the onslaught of the former world bantamweight and featherweight champion.
The confidence of the Mexican was increasing as the fight advanced and he was encouraged to throw combinations to the body.
After twelve rounds, the scores of the three judges were unanimous with totals of 120-108, which gave Gonzalez the 66th victory of his career and that will surely mean a jump in the world rankings where he is currently located at third.
In the co-featured fight of the evening, Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado greatly exceeded the more experienced Juan Carlos 'Crow' Chavira, who visited the canvas a couple of times before the contest was deemed to be over by the referee in the fourth round of action.
Delgado maintained his perfect mark in the professional ranks with a powerful right hand that immediately hurt Chavira's humanity, for which the referee Laurentino Ramírez determined that it was better to stop the battle.
Lindolfo improved his mark to 4 wins, all by way of knockout and continues moving forward on his planned path to a world title.
