Former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez believes that he is a "very dangerous" opponent for the current super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Miguel Berchelt, and therefore he believes the champion and his handlers are not mentioning him as a possible opponent.

Gonzalez will return to the ring on April 7 in Ixtapa against the Dominican Marlyn Cabrera, a opponent who will help the dangerous puncher stay active while trying to secure the title fight he so desires and for which he is willing to wait as long as necessary.

"I am aware that I may have to wait another year, but I have no problem with that... I have no injuries, I have been active, I still feel young in boxing with the way that I'm preparing. If I felt tired or desperate I would have touched other doors, but no I want to face the best and they say the best is Berchelt, so I'll wait for that opportunity," Gonzalez said to ESPN Deportes.

On more than one occasion, Berchelt has published on his social networks that Gonzalez has no longer meets the merits to land that title fight against him.

That however, does not bother Gonzalez.

"I think I'm very dangerous for Berchelt, he and his promoter know that and that's why they do not mention me as a possible opponent. I recognize that Berchelt is good and has a punch, but he also has his flaws. He is a very hard-fought fighter who has difficulty when it comes to moving around," Gonzalez said.

"But if he wants to fight - here we are. I'm ready for whenever they tell me. But if not, I'm willing to continue working and take the fights they tell me to become an official challenger and get that title fight. I think that's the only way I'm going to get the opportunity."

About the fight with Cabrera (24-1, 11 KOs), Gonzalez (65-10, 54 KOs) explained that at this point in his career he can not afford to underestimate anyone.

"Cabrera is a complicated opponent, he has a good record. I am not overconfident, I have trained well, I know that in every fight there is a lot at stake. I expect a difficult fight like the seven previous ones in which I have come out with the hand held high. I am well focused without stopping my dream of being the world champion again," said Gonzalez.
