Triple world champion Jhonny Gonzalez has returned to training in Monterrey, Nuevo León; where he currently resides; with a view to his first fight this year in the traditional 'Box Saturdays' on Televisa.

Jhonny, a feared puncher who has won 54 of his 65 victories by knockout, is already in full swing in the gym, alternating hard workouts with his customary road work at the summits near the Sultana del Norte.

The fearsome puncher, who is ranked fourth ;under the WBC world rankings at the super featherweight limit of 130 pounds, is waiting to obtain the date for his first scheduled fight on 2018.

Gonzalez (65-10, 54 KOs) is trying to work his way to a world title crack, at the current WBC king Miguel Berchelt.

Berchelt will return to the ring next month, when he defends his world title for the second time, against former world champion Cristian Mijares.

Gonzalez has reeled off seven wins in a row since losing an upset ten round majority decision to Jonathan Oquendo. Two fights prior to that, Gonzalez was knocked out in four rounds and lost his WBC featherweight title to Gary Russell Jr.

The Mexican puncher was last in action back in November, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Irving Berry in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

"The plan is to continue working hard to be ready for when the opportunity arrives to fight for the world title and we are going to try to do our best to make it a great year," said González after his morning workout at the Maya Gym & Charly in the capital of Nuevo León. Lion.

Gonzalez is not against the idea of fighting any of the contenders ahead of him, including a countryman, if is guarantees him a shot at Berchelt. The current mandatory challenger to Berchelt is Miguel Roman, who last month knocked out Orlando Salido to secure that lofty status at the weight.
