Dallas, Texas - Youtube star turned boxer, Jake Paul (7-1, 4 KOs), was pleased with his performance from Saturday night, when he picked up a ten round unanimous decision over MMA veteran Nate Diaz (0-1), who was making his pro debut in boxing.
The scores were 97-92, 98-91 and 98-91.
Paul was coming off his first defeat as a professional boxer, with an eight round split decision loss to Tommy Fury back in February.
“The loss was seriously the best thing. It set me on the path I was supposed to be on and you can’t cut corners in this sport. I was in the gym the day after the loss. I flew back from the Middle East and went to the gym every single day up until this fight," Paul said.
After that loss, Paul put a new team together and began to make adjustments in camp. Against Diaz, Paul went the ten round distance for the first time in his career.
“I’m a new fighter. The new team we brought in, the new strength and conditioning---- everything was new and I worked harder this camp. It pushed me to my limits. There were moments in the gym where I thought, ‘Damn I don’t even know if I can do this,’ but I just kept on believing in myself and now my gas tank is crazy. I could have kept on going. I could have gone twelve rounds and we are just stepping up and up, and after doing it in three years- I’m happy with myself," Paul said.
“It was fun and I knew [Diaz] was trying to take breaks so I would pounce on him when he was doing that. We were talking to each other the whole fight. When you’re in there with another dog, you can sense it. It just makes the sport more fun and this fight was probably the most memorable yet."
