Spectacular Tijuana fighter Jaime "Destructor" Munguia knocked out Johnny ¨Vaquero¨ Navarrete at 2:08 of the third round in the headline bout of a Zanfer Promotions card at the Arena Jose Sulaiman in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The event was televised by Azteca 7, The Casa de Boxeo.
Munguia (28-0, 24 KOs) once again showed again his power as he rained down the punches on Navarrete (33-10, 15 kos), who fell to the canvas in the second round, but bravely continued and managed to land some punches of his own.
Eventually Navarrete was overwhelmed by the strength of the Tijuana puncher.
The fight was agreed for the ten round at the super welterweight limit of 154-pounds.
Navarrete was attempting to get revenge for the loss that he suffered to Munguia in April of 2017.
From the moment the bell rang, Munguia was determined, he came out ready to finish fast, and with both hands he connected with combinations to the body and to the head with crosses that carried dynamite.
In the second round he made it clear that his promise to remain undefeated in Monterrey was serious, as he deposited Navarrete to the canvas. He made it to his feet and fought back, but continued to receive punishment until the bell rang.
The effectiveness of the punches were coming down very hard - until the referee Sergio Hernández decided to stop the fight at 2:08 of the third round, declaring the unbeaten boxer the winner by knockout.
In what was the semi-final match, Uppercut Promotions fighter Daniel 'Cejitas' Valladares retained his World Boxing Council (WBC) junior silver crown by beating his challenger Erick Zamora by TKO at 2 minutes with 26 seconds of the fourth round.
Valladares made his defense and increased his record to 15-1 with 8 knockouts.
Sergio 'Chirino' Sanchez Jr. (8-0-0, 3 KOs) won his contest with a wide unanimous decision over Jose Ramón Rodríguez (8-2-0, 1 KO), in a six round contest.
