Jack Bateson won the vacant English super-bantamweight title thanks to a unanimous decision victory over Ramez Mahmood on Friday.
The two men met on the MTK Global and Mark Bateson co-promotion at the Leeds United Banqueting Suite at Elland Road, with the event broadcast live on IFL TV.
Unbeaten Bateson (15-0, 3 KOs) was in control for the majority of the fight, with the judges eventually scoring it 97-92, 97-92 and 99-90 to earn him the victory against Mahmood (11-2, 2 KOs), and secure the first title of his professional career in the process.
Bateson said: “I’m buzzing. This has been a long time coming. I’m not saying I started from the bottom, but I came off the GB squad and everybody else was signing with big promoters, but I turned pro with my old man and boxed on small shows.
“I then joined MTK Global and now I’m English champion. It wasn’t a good performance from me really as I’ve been ill all week and wondered if I should even fight, but I’ve won it and now we’re onto the next one.
“I want a short break now as my Mrs is heavily pregnant and our baby is due next week, but then next year I’m coming for all of the belts. MTK Global will take me places and I want all of the titles now. This is where you’re going to see the best of me.
“I’m blessed to be from a city like Leeds. Ever since I was a young kid the fans have come out to support me, so thank you everyone for all of the support, we’re going to go all the way.”
Elsewhere on the card, there were impressive wins for Darren Tetley, Mace Ruegg, Ellis Hopkins and Will Harrison, while several Leeds prospects also impressed.
