Tijuana, BC . - The heart of what is the strongest phase of his training, sparring sessions at a fast pace and fighting and controlling weight, Humberto "Zorrita" Soto Tijuana prepares for what will be the second defense of his Lightweight Championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC) against Colombian challenger Fidel Monterrosa.
The fight will happen at the Stadium Dorados de Culiacan, and the date was confirmed for Saturday, September 18. "Zorrita" has not neglect any detail in the gym, while his trainer Romulo Quirarte Jr., is defining tactics and strategy.
Soto (52-7-2, 32 KOs) and Monterrosa (23-1-0, 18 KOs) headline an attractive card to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico, however, the world champion will even be prepared to fight against the crowd.
"The fight is in Culiacan and I'm returning from defeating a fighter from Culiacan, Ricardo 'Pelon' Dominguez, and there is also rivalry between Culiacán and Los Mochis, where I am from. We've been very strong in sports, so it is quite possible that the public will be against me, but that does not bother me. I'm going to do my job and defend my title and wait for the great active legends of Mexican boxing like [Juan Manuel] Marquez, El Terrible [Erik Morales] or [Marco Antonio] Barrera, to dare take a fight with me," Soto said.
For "Zorrita" his opponent, Fidel Monterrosa is a challenger who should be taken seriously.
"He's a younger rival at 22 years of age, quick, has a great record and won his last four fights by knockout and apparently is bigger than me," established 'Zorrita', adding: "He will rise the ring with the hunger to be a world champion and is going to have the best preparation of his career, but I also I have to write my own story. I have a lot of plans but all them depend on my victory on the 18th, and we are going step by step, fight by fight, and for the moment all my focus is on Monterrosa. "
In the gym "Zorrita" Soto has sparred with Pavel Miranda, Alejandro "Mantequita" Rubio, Marvin Quintero and world number one ranked Juan Carlos Burgos.
