Eddie Hearn, promoter for unbeaten welterweight contender Conor Benn, suggested that he was planning a comeback fight within two months ahead of a major opponent in December.

Due to a drug testing saga, Benn has been out of the ring since April of 2022.

Benn was scheduled to fight in October of last year, in a catch-weight bout with Chris Eubank Jr., but the contest was called off at the last minute after news broke that Benn had tested positive for a banned substance. Benn would later reveal that he tested positive for the same banned substance in a separate test.

He was eventually hit with a provisional suspension by drug testing agency UKAD, who spent several months investigating the matter.

On Friday, Benn would announce that UKAD had officially cleared him of doping charges.

Hearn is going to sit down with his boxer and working out his return.

He would like to see Benn shake off the rust before a bigger fight it set down.

“It’s been a brutal, painful year of work and belief,” Hearn said on Matchroom Youtube channel. “The nightmare is over and he can get back to his career. Now we sit down with Conor and we look at the plan.

“Maybe he has a slightly smaller fight first. He’s been out of the ring for a year and a half, but he wants the big fights ASAP.

“We’ll decide what’s right for him. I like him coming back and having a fight maybe in September, and then going into a huge fight in December.”

Benn will be a very interested observer in the outcome of Saturday's fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas - where Terence Crawford and Errol Spence will step in the ring to crown an undisputed welterweight champion.
