Hall of Fame promoter Don King is making some changes to his upcoming card at Casino Miami Jai Alai, which takes place on Saturday, January 21.
The card was initially announced with WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Junior Makabu making a mandatory defense against Noel Mikaelian, but that fight appears to be off the card with no explanation provided for the cancelation.
The card will now be headlined by a heavyweight fight with Jonathan Guidry (18-1-2, 10 KOs) of Dulac, LA facing former WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (25-5-1, 21 KOs) from Las Vegas, NV via Canada.
Guidry is coming off a win over Dacarree Scott. Guidry sent him to the canvas at 2:01 of the seventh round to claim the NABA gold title on June 11, at Casino Miami Jai-Alai.
Guidry had started the year suffering his first loss after 17 straight victories as a professional, losing a split decision to Trevor Bryan in Warren, Ohio on Jan. 29.
Stiverne will be snapping a two-year layoff. Like Guidry, the veteran lost his last fight to Trevor Bryan, which took place in January of 2021 at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Bryan floored Stiverne twice, the last coming with 1:27 of the 11th round when referee Frank Gentile called a halt to the proceedings.
