Now that the World Boxing Council has ruled that both (WBC champion) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and (mandatory challenger) Gennady "GGG" Golovkin can each take a fight in the first half of 2016 before negotiating for a fight against each other, promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions can start laying the groundwork for Golovkin's next bout.

"Gennady's next bout will be in the spring and it will depend on the opponent,"explained Loeffler on Monday while in Panama for the WBA convention.

"Naturally, the winner of the Andy Lee-BJ Saunders fight is an attractive fight, it's for the WBO title. Danny Jacobs just had a very big win, he becomes an interesting opponent. So it really depends on who the opponent is and then we go for the location and we match that up with the HBO schedule."

Tureano Johnson, who is the top rated contender in the IBF, is also a possibility according to Loeffler.

"So there's a lot of moving parts right now but as always we'll try and get the highest profile fight for Gennady," said Loeffler, who says that there are several locales in play to host Golovkin's next bout.

"There's been a lot of interest for Gennady to come back to Los Angeles, to fight at Madison Square Garden again, Texas is very interested, Las Vegas is interested. So there's a lot of interest and it depends on the opponent and it depends on what type of deal we can put together," says Loeffler.

Golovkin last fought on the night of October 17 in New York where he scored a seventh round stoppage of David Lemieux to add the IBF belt to his growing collection of middleweight titles.
