LAS VEGAS – Gennadiy Golovkin gave an intense Canelo Alvarez a smile as they were separated on stage Friday following their ceremonial weigh-in.

Now that they’ve made weight at a jam-packed plaza outside of T-Mobile Arena, these rivals barely have to wait 24 more hours for their third fight. Four years and two days after Alvarez won their 12-round middleweight championship rematch by majority decision, they will return to T-Mobile Arena to compete in another 12-rounder for Alvarez’s IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight crowns.

Mexico’s Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs), who is 5-0 in super middleweight matches, stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 167.4 pounds Friday morning during an official weigh-in that was held behind closed doors.

The 32-year-old Alvarez dropped back down to the super middleweight division to square off against Golovkin. The Guadalajara native weighed in at 174½ pounds for his last fight, a 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to WBA light heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena.

The 40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), who will make his debut at the super middleweight limit, officially weighed in at a career-high 167.8 pounds. Prior to Friday afternoon, Kazakhstan’s Golovkin had never weighed in at more than 163 pounds for a professional fight, his official weight for a fourth-round knockout of Toronto’s Steve Rolls in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Caesars Sportsbook listed Alvarez as a 5-1 favorite Friday, despite the thoroughly competitive nature of their first two fights.

Their third fight will headline a DAZN Pay-Per-View show that is available through DAZN’s app, as well as cable and satellite providers. The official weights for all seven fights on the Alvarez-Golovkin undercard are listed below.
