Comments Thread For: Jacobs Reflects on Charlo Confrontation, Building Superstar Run

By Thomas Gerbasi - Daniel Jacobs was just a kid. That was the first thought when looking at the Instagram video posted by Gary Stark Jr. in March. The now retired super bantamweight was coming off a win over veteran Vernie Torres in 2006, and Stark and his team were outside the Manhattan Center and talking it up for the cameras. Middleweight contender Curtis Stevens was there, and so was Jacobs, 19 years old...

Danny Jacobs is truly one of my favorite fighters going. No real weakness and a polished pro, he will outpoint you in an ugly fight and he still has some KO power.

His last fight with Luis Arias was a waste, but he needed to get back in the ring after the Golovkin loss. Sulecki is made to order to make him look good, a super welterweight getting a nice payday in exchange for an exciting fight he most likely can't win. After this, Charlo would be a tantalizing match up. If not him, any of the top 10 MW's is needed. He may still be in great shape, but he has to work himself back to where he gets another shot in the next couple years. The man can beat any of these MW's out there. But he is closer to the back end than the front end of his career and needs to get a bit of urgency.

I'd love to see Charlo-Jacobs, and I liked how Danny handled the obnoxious Charlo bro while stayle calm and collected yet stood his ground.

Charlo looks great against nobodies, he needs to fight at least one live dog, one top fighter at middle weight and then we'll know.

For the record, Charlo is a tough fight but Danny beats him every day all day

Maciej Sulecki TKOed Centeno Jr. Danny picked the winner, Charlo chose the loser. ...nuff said.

Can’t knock Jacobs, he’s a great fighter and seems like a great human

He’s a legit top tier MW and he’s battled adversity inside and outside of the ring which would break most men and done it with a champions mentality

Hes the only fighter that had a actual Close fight with Gennady ( I gave it to him the first time I watched it ) but you can’t argue with the decision especially with the KD

The Charlo fight probably isn’t going to happen anytime soon because networks / promotional co.

And doubt he gets a opportunity at Saunders anytime soon

And that’s probably why he’s fighting C/ C+ fighters hoping he gets a opportunity to fight GGg/ Canelo with in the next year and if he doesn’t get them ( don’t think he will get either TBH )

The only other top end fighter left is Andrade so hopefully they fight by the end of the year

                That’ll be a crazy fight

That was very impressive indeed. No need to get emotional. His calmness really helps him in the ring as well.

Not just a winner, Sulecki won every round & went for the KO in the 10th when he didn't need it, think this shows his desire. Centeno simply capitalized off the big Aleem KO to get a nice payday...pretty much the same hype Charlo is getting from knocking out unproven contenders. He's got great power for sure but not difficult to KO your opponent when they're running into shots or standing flatfooted grasping air in an effort to tie up.

I think people are really underestimating Sulecki, this is not a showcase fight like Charlo just had. Maciej is really a career MW & only dropped down to 154 for his last 3 fights. Dominated Culcay, something Andrade wasn't able to do in route to his close SD win. Sulecki has also fought as high as 168 in 2014. He's got good movement & throws more punches than DJ does. I'm really expecting an exciting fight with some nice back & forth action. As long as he can withstand Danny's overhand right it'll be a close fight.

Charlo should avoid Jacobs/ Canelo/ Derevyachenko and keep his undefeated for Golovkin. He can fight Andrade or Murata or even Murrey who will still be a big step up even if he loses to BJS
