I think we all know what Robert was doing: Gastelum had rocked Israel in their last fight, but squandered the opportunity.

The difference is, even if Whitaker is a better striker than Gastelum, Gastelum has a WHOLE LOT LESS mileage than Whitaker. (Plus, that was a pretty sneaky hook).

Maybe Whitaker really did believe he could trade and **** w/ Adesanya and that the fan-friendly approach would win him over with the judges? fighters tend not to know when they have had too much.

Either way, the dude has been through hell and back. And Thompson showed Whitaker's bane is more atheletic, rangey, technically/defenisvely sound strikers. Adesanya isn't on Thompson's level, but he clearly didn't need to be: 1) He's 25 pounds heavier, 2) Whitaker has been worn thread-bare.


I think Whitaker can still win some big fights. And I think it's a damn shame he hasn't be appreciate for the ALL-TIME GREAT that he is - before this fight, he was #1 P4P. But he really has nothing more to prove, and after a few more easy pay days and Hightlight-Reel-finishes, needs to hang the gloves up.
