Forbes: Canelo Highest Paid fighter in the world, Joshua #2, Boxing = 5 Spots, MMA= 1

Canelo Alvarez is the highest paid fighter in the world today and Anthony Joshua is second. Boxing had 5 of the top 100 athletes in the 100 highest paid athletes in the world today. Canelo, Joshua, Wilder, Pacquiao and Golovkin.

The one and only mma fighter on the list was Conor McGregor at #21 behind Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua.

Why do boxers make so much more than mma fighters?

Because Dana White is a slave owner/mma slum lord

Crazy how White controls and tells all his fighters what to do. Still can't believe they are paid the way they are.

If you ask me, it's a lack of competition.

In MMA, you only have the UFC promotion that has the big money. Top tier MMA fighters can leave to other promotions, but those promotions don't have the money UFC does, and the UFC knows it.

In boxing, you have more promotions with a lot of big money; Top Rank, Golden Boy, PBC, and now DAZN.

Top tier boxers have multiple promotions with big money they can sign with, unlike MMA fighters.

Kind of like wrestlers with WWE, which the new AEW promotion is starting to change with its strong showing on pay per view. And now with wrestlers becoming increasingly frustrated with the company and knowing they have another option, they're even turning down big money contracts, sitting out their current contracts and then opting to sign with AEW, even if it means less money. In time, it will mean better deals and more satisfaction for the wrestlers as the one big company loses their monopoly power. The same is happening with UFC fighters, opting to leave and go to Bellator or even One, telling UFC ownership to go f*$k themselves, because their piece of mind is more important than a higher paycheck and they know they can ultimately make up that money in sponsorships, especially in MMA, where UFC fighters are only allowed to endorse Reebok, which is one of the dumbest deals ever.

            It's a better model.

If you held a financial stake in a fight promotions company and it was your money on the line who would you rather have in charge?

A boxing promoter who pours a trillion dollars into one circus attraction like anthony joshua & when he loses, you're one more loss away from bankruptcy?

Or a brand focused promoter like Dana/UFC that divides the pay among hundreds of fighters & no matter who wins/loses, their fanbase is always there just like NHL/NFL/etc?

Most of the UFC roster not being multi-millionaires is not that big of a deal to me. Most journeyman boxers are poorer than anyone on the UFC roster. All but the highest paid athletes would still kill for that kind of opportunity & visibility.

Then there's the years-long ducking routines/corrupt officials/bum-slaughters of boxing. Which are fueled by the every-fighter-is-a-franchise model. Most of the fight being won or lost before the bell rings.

D white has the infrastructure in place, UFC is a corporation. As such it has a fiduciary duty to make money for investors.

If the ufc went broke, a bankruptcy judge will make sure employees are paid after pretty much everyone else.

So, Dana feels a need to keep employee pay in check.

Yeah but you don’t think there is ducking in the UFC? Look at how many hand picked midgets Connor was allowed to cherrypick on his way up there was no mention of him fighting at his actual weight. When he got to his actual weight then he took forever to fight Khabib who he was allowed to duck for about 3 years.
