MMA Gloves for heavy bag!

No point.
Buy regular boxing gloves for the heavy bag. MMA gloves are worthless in anything other than the competition and maybe grappling practice but that's a big stretch.

I don't know how anyone can hit an already padded heavy bag in the same gloves they spar with. Zero feedback.Last edited by ////; 01-29-2017, 03:56 AM.

I don't know why people think this is a good idea. Someone who trains at our gym used to hit the bag with MMA gloves and when I was buying new boxing gloves for myself the guy at the shop suggested me to buy MMA gloves for the heavy bag. It's crazy.
For the heavy bag I'd suggest at least solid 12 oz gloves. You need to protect your hands as well as you can, especially once you've trained long enough and you hit really hard. If you damage your wrist or knuckles it takes a long time to heal and it will likely never be the same again.
With 12-16oz gloves you can hit hard and don't have to worry that much about your hands. I guarantee you if I start hitting the heavy bag with MMA gloves I'd completely destroy my hands in a week.
Also this whole "hit the heavy bag bare knuckle to strengthen your hands" is ridiculous. You're just risking injuries and at the same time you can't hit at your full potential. Heavy bag is for building power and you have to punch with power without having to worry to destroy your wrists or knuckles all the time.
Carl Froch once said that they have to wrap his hands up carefully for about half an hour before he starts hitting the heavy bag because he hits so hard. Imagine someone like him hitting the bag with those tiny 4oz gloves.

Full-sized gloves + the softness of the bag itself just doesn't give me much feedback on how well I'm hitting. In small bag gloves I can feel exactly how crisp and how much pop.Last edited by ////; 01-31-2017, 04:12 AM.
