    Fight of the year Poll....

    Fedor vs. CroCop
This may not have been the most exciting fight of the year, but it was probably the most anticipated match up to date.

    Forrest Griffin vs. Stephen Bonnar
Action packed slug fest. Not alot of technique but tons of heart!

    Nick Diaz vs. Diego Sanchez
Sanchez proves he's the real deal in a great back and forth ground fight with tons of transitions, reversals, and escapes....

    Shogun vs. Lil Nog
Action packed fight. Shogun gets the nod on his way to becoming GP champ!

    Hughes vs. Trigg 2
Hughes shows why he's the champ by coming back from being rocked to choke Trigg out for the second time!

    Gomi vs Kawajiri
Great fight with tons of action. After some great stand up, Gomi was able to sink a choke on Kawajiri forwarding him thru to the next round of the tournament....

Im gonna go with Bonnar/Griffin because that fight helped to propel UFC's popularity up quite a bit and led to bigger interest in TUF 2 at the time.

        Shogun Vs. Lil nog.

The grappler outstruck the striker and the striker out grappled the grappler.

        classic

I had to go with shogun and rogerio.. this was a war and it went the distance couldn't ask for anything better.. Oh yah and they showed tremendous talent standing up and on the ground...

Gomi/kawajiri was also a great fight but was cut short due to submission.. I felt like their wsa some sloppy striking going on, both guys kept throwin bombs back n fourth nobody was picking their shots..

Griffin/Bonnar where do i start??. Terrific standup war with 2guys swinging for the fences.. The americans must have luved it, how long has it been since the UFC had a fight like that in the octagon?? Hmm Never which also allows peeps the understandable opportunity to over rate this fight..
Like I said it was a standup battle only prob was it was bonnars first pro fight, griffins first fight in the UFC, both guys were gassin,(which shows tremendous heart cause they carried on) but man as the rounds went on the striking got pretty sloppy I believe both fighters had the oppertunity to finish that fight, but they were to gassed and missed the oppertunity,
Wouldn't mind seein part 2 of this, now that both guys have a year experience at that level..

Gomi Vs Kawajiri was an OK fight. Not great, Kawajiri looked like **** and Gomi looked sloppy.

Kawajiri looked nothing like i had ever seen him before, Striking was OFF shot looked sloppy and weak, Gomi was just throwin thise looping punches as alwasy, but it just wasn't competative and not really even that entertaining.

The hype was so big for such a lack luster performance on both parts.

Thats' going a bit far.. Keep in mind both of these fighters fought earlier that night and they managed to put on one hell of a show in both fights..
Guess they figured they should end it quick B4 neither fighter had any energy left..
lack luster?? Anybody who saw the fight wouldn't say that, therefor your just speaking on something you know nothing about..
Usin the internet to Tash on peole with more talent than your entire familly tree...

Bonnar vs Griffen because of the following reasons

                    1. Heart - Both guys showed tons of it in their fight. Any great fight needs this. A good fight can be technical and slick, but for a GREAT fight you need something that could be turned into a movie.

                    2. What they were fighting for - While its not as important as some people think, a title or championship is always nice. In this case, TUF season 1 title. In fact, both of them fought so hard, there really weren't any losers. Both of them got contracts. Only difference is that Forrest got the ****ty car.

                    3. What it meant for MMA - First free t.v broadcast of MMA and this is what people see. A great start.

                    4. No referee - Well, ok there was a ref but aside from stopping to get Forrest's nose checked out, Herb Dean didn't have to do a thing. The fighters never needed to be stood up, a clinch broken or told to work because they were stalling.

                    5. And finally the most important one of all - The fact etheir man could of won it at any moment - In all the other fights listed above, the winner was the clear winner. Doesn't matter if he finished it or won by decison, he was never in any serious danger of losing. Maybe Fedor, Maybe Gomi, but no. They weren't nearly as balanced as this fight.

So thoses are my reasons. All great fights however and I wouldnt blame anyone for picking another one of thoses listed above.
