LOL... Ahh The Legendary Benny " The Jet " Urquidez I remember him albeit I only saw him fight once and that was his retirement fight against some Japanese guy, but I've seen a good amount of highlight clips of his fights. It's really hard for me to gauge him because "American kickboxing" isn't really all that popular, so I wonder about the level of talent in that sport... and today I can't even name one kickboxer, Muay thai yes but kickboxing no... The only heralded kickboxer I know is Chuck Norris and that was even before Urquidez's time.

Benny The Jet was a phenomenal striker and would fare very good in the modern UFC if he learned some ground skills.

I'm in Evansville, IN and i train at a gym that teaches Muay Thai. One of the guys from my school fought a guy trained by Benny Urquidez and won, keeping the other guy on the defensive for all three two-minute rounds (it was an amateur fight). This website explains about Benny Urquidez (indeed, about all kickboxers) and Muay Thai.

if you click on the menu selection "The Belt is in the Ring" and scroll down, you'll see how phenomenal Urquidez really was.

Good in his own right, but the fact that a Muay Thai student beat a student of Urquidez's to me proves a point about Urquidez.

I doubt there's anyone in the world in his weight class that can take more than a few strikes from him without going out.
