    Starting to learn

I'm just now starting to learn little by little. I'm a police officer and I am defensive tactics instructor at my department. In a real fight that stuff just doesn't work. I am getting ready to move from here in a couple of months, and moving to Las Vegas. I was wondering if anyone knew of a MMA gym or a gym where I can learn some. I am starting to learn Jui Jitsu and one of my friends is a pro boxer, and he's giving me lessons in that area. I just want to learn more and progress. Any and all help would be appreaciated.

Currently, what are police allowed to use to subdue a suspect? Anything you teach as an instructor has to be ok'd by the chief I'm assuming? I think submission tactics would be a good thing to use when confronting a combative suspect.....

I'm not sure how well something like Jiu Jitsu will help out in self defence on the street. Many cops in Connecticut train in something where i train called Kun Tao. It's a filipino art and far more practical for street related stuff and self defence. Of all of the arts offered where i train (grappling system, Jeet Kune Do, Kali/Silat/Escrima, Kun tao) it's by far the preferred art of choice for law enforcement. You might want to look into something besides jiu jitsu...i doubt you wanna pull guard with a violent gang ****er or someone like that...
