I feel the reason Fedor lost is because he got lazy and relied on his power, rather than technique. AGREE/DISAGREE?



ps: This loss is the best thang that happened with Fedor. It has remotivated him I believe.

I knew he was gonna lose because he never fights with strategy. He will fight his opponents at their own game and he has gottan lucky in the past (Nogeuira on the ground, Cro Cop in the stand up) but I knew that Werdum's ground game was at just another level.

What Fedor did was the equivalent of fighting Wladimir Klitschko in an MMA match and choosing to stand and trade punches.

But this was a good lesson for him and he will be much improved because of it.

On topic, Fedor definitely got lazy, and over confident imo. I really don't think this fight knock's Fedor down hardly at all. Even the best can be caught, and he wasn't dominated in any sense of the word, merely caught in a sub.

This analogy underrates Werdum's MMA ability a bit, however, it is not unlike a boxer in a tune-up fight being caught with a perfectly timed shot right on the button and being knocked out. I've seen this happen in the past, and this is the closest analogy I can think of. I don't want to use the word fluke, and Werdum is an amazing fighter and one of the best on the ground, bar none. However, Fedor clearly was caught, and Fedor is almost certainly the superior fighter.

As far as rankings go, as far as I'm concerned, any non-bias heavyweight rankings cannot possibly fail to be in utter disarray, as a result of the recent events (not that an unbiased ratings list necessarily exists). I saw some rankings with Brock and Carwin at 1 and 2, as if Brock employing the Homer Simpson defense against a man in Carwin who gassed within one round could warrent such a rating. I can understand the argument for Brock, but Carwin within the top 5 is a joke, let alone the top 3. He's still a fighter with great potential, but he has to work his way back, and you don't move up in rankings after gassing in less than 1 round, by virtue of exposing another man for being punch shy.

That sense of invincibility is gone now. All that is left is to hope that it was a humbling experience for him.

I agree with this to a large extent, however I don't believe Fedor believed in his invincibility. To the contrary, I think he may have been affected by the status of invincibility which was conveyed upon him.

I think this was quite clear from his post-fight interviews. He said that he never wanted to be an idol and that, essentially, he prefers to see himself as just another fighter. I think he may have let it all go to his head, the hype and all, but not in the sense that he thought he was unbeatable, but in the sense that he was dis-focused because of the hype which surrounded him.

I still think he has the most talent of any fighter in MMA, past or present. Whether or not his mind is still in it is the big question, I suppose.

Yeah, and you Brock fans are still swinging on his nuts and talking nonsense about Fedor despite the fact that Brock got subbed by a lesser BJJ guy than Werdum and then got the **** beat out of him in his last fight and only survived because his opponent gassed.
