I get what you're saying.

As far as the traditional, core events go, I've certainly noticed that a lot of the relatively lesser heralded guys seem to be very strong. That's actually always been one of my complaints about WSM, is that I would like to see more of those sorts of traditionally-based events, like squatting, clean-and-jerk, dead lift, and the like.

That said, in sort of a round about way, your comments do in fact bode well for Mariusz as far as MMA is concerned (I say round-about because this isn't really the topic you were discussing at the moment). Mariusz's athleticism, explosiveness, etc. are far more valuable for MMA than raw, core strength.

Yeah, but don't forget that the events are made that way to be entertaining to casual viewers. It's only really WSM in name. Yeah, I agree with the MMA comment. It should be a good thing for sure.

This guy is damn strong. I rememebr watching it but also recall when he first came on the scene, he did boxing but hated getting punched.

Like I said, his raw strength is not as good as the very best. A lot of the events in WSM are about power and endurance, or power and speed. The Arnold strongman events are closer to the traditional strength tests, with more emphasis on static strength. Pudzianowski is a very explosive man, and the WSM is ideally suited for that. He can be out-squatted, out-deadlifted etc any day of the week by quite a few top men.

well mariusz is 280 ish while Savickas is 390 and glenn ross is 480....i wouldnt really expect him to outlift some one 100-200 lb's heavier then him.

mariusz is one of the best at dead lift, glen ross used to be the best in WSM, mark felix is good aswell, i missed the competition this year though.
