Petr Yan responds to Rob Font callout: ‘You couldn’t even knock Cody No Chin out’

Former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan doesn’t sound like he’s entertaining a fight with Rob Font just yet.

Font inserted himself into the title picture at 135 pounds with a resounding decision win over another former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt, at UFC Vegas 27 this past Saturday. It was the fourth straight win for Font—a veteran who also holds wins over former World Series of Fighting champion Marlon Moraes and current Bellator champion Sergio Pettis—and in a subsequent interview with MMA Fighting, Font suggested that Yan would be an ideal next matchup for him.

“Best case scenario? They give me Petr Yan right now and we get it going,” Font said on What the Heck. “Maybe do it for an interim belt, but I doubt that happens. We’ll see what’s up, but give me Petr Yan. He’s the only one available, the fans want to see exciting fights and I know that’s an exciting fight and then I’ll take care of the belt for him. Just sit back, don’t worry about the belt, I’ll take it for him.”

Yan caught wind of this challenge and issued a response via social media on Friday, warning Font, “Don’t bite off more than you can chew.”

Yan added, “You couldn’t even knock Cody No Chin out with your pillow hands.”

Though Font’s current win streak has included three decisions, the Massachusetts native has shown plenty of finishing power. He defeated Moraes by first-round TKO, and has finished four other UFC opponents by knockout.

Yan is in no hurry to take on any fights at the moment as he awaits a rematch with current champion Aljamain Sterling. The two fought at UFC 259 in March, where Yan lost the bantamweight title after landing an illegal knee on a grounded Sterling that resulted in Yan being disqualified. Recently, Sterling underwent neck surgery and it is not yet known when or if an immediate rematch with Yan will be booked.
