Anderson Silva has signed to box Roy Jones Jr. : Five Ounces of Pain

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva (24-4) has made it clear that he plans on retiring from the UFC once his contract expires. As of now, Anderson has four fights with the Ultimate Fighting Championships, the most recent on August 8th in Philadelphia against contender Forrest Griffin.

However, according to Anderson himself in a recent conversation with Fighters Only ****zine, he has no intentions of retiring from hand-to-hand combat altogether once he’s through in the Ocatagon.

It’s been talked about for close to a year now and Silva has recently confirmed that there is no question about it; he’s going to box Roy Jones Jr. As a matter of fact, contracts have been inked and it’s only a matter of time from here.

“It is undoubted that I will face Roy Jones,” revealed Silva. “We have talked too much, have signed some contracts and we want to make it the sooner the better. It’s not for money or spotlight, it’s for my desire.

“I watch Roy Jones since he competed as an amateur and in the Olympic Games. I’m looking forward to this fight to put in the ring everything I know, to show my students in the future that I understand what I may say over this or that and don’t seem a pirate parrot.”

The farther away this fight is the better it is for Silva. Jones keeps getting older.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it is shown. I wonder if HBO or Showtime will have any interest in showing it.

thats what I thought, until I saw Silva in a boxing match. Trust me, Jones would have to be atleast 50 years old to lose to Silva.

Silva should go after someone other than Jones. He's not really a big name anymore. The fight won't create as much interest as he thinks. Hardly any more than Mercer vs Sylvia.

It's a lose-lose for Silva. If he loses, it not good for him, and if he wins he beats a guy who is 42 by fight time and WAY over the hill.

He should have signed to fight Calzaghe. A loss wouldn't hurt him so much, and I'm sure Calzaghe would come out of retirement for that fight.

ummm no, I don't see this being a lose-lose for Silva but rather a lose-lose for Jones. Jones has nothing to gain and everything to lose from this fight. Silva is an mma fighter and not a boxer, so if he loses, that is his excuse. Jones might be shot, but he is still a boxer and he shouldn't lose to Silva.

Roy jones has been in steady decline since the ruiz fight.he is 4-4 since then.wins over tarver(which I thought he lost),hanshaw, sheika, trinidad(at 175 was a joke since trinidads prime weight is around 147 I think).he got his ass kicked by tarver twice, calzaghe shoe shined him,Johnson.i'm not sure if he'll beat lacy.he should but he just isn't fast enough anymore.I hope he gets killed by lacy.jones sucks!

Lol, Mercer crushed a guy who isn't the best stand up guy or heavyweight for that matter in MMA, with 4 ounce gloves on. It was bound to happen.

My reaction to this thread is..

Damn it Silva. You better win or else it's all for nothing and you will be remembered by lesser fans as the guy who got KO'd by a shot boxer.
