Promoters Matt “The Law” Lindland and Randy “The Natural” Couture have done it again! The fourth Sportfight since state sanctioning, “Fight For Freedom” sports a card full of long anticipated fights along with some surprise match-ups that are sure to cause a buzz.
Sportfight Middleweight champion Chris “Lights Out” Leben will defend his belt against two time UFC veteran and top contender Benji “The Razor” Radach at Sportfight on June 26th. The new main event promises to be the biggest fight in Northwest mma history! Leben recently proved himself in a major test by going the distance with UFC-bound Joe Doerkson. Although he lost the decision, Leben showed true grit in what has been called one of the best mma fights in history. Radach is known as one of the hardest hitters in his weight-class, and has won by KO or TKO in ten of his twelve wins. Leben is also known for finishing opponents quickly, so this fight will be an epic battle!
In other news, Sportfight matchmakers are seeking an opponent for Joe “Diesel” Riggs to add to an already astounding card! A top middleweight world contender, Riggs has ended his last four fights with first round knockouts, and is rumored to be fighting in the UFC soon.
Ed “Short Fuse” Herman has been waiting for a rematch with “Sugar” Shane Davis since being armbarred by him at Second Coming last summer. Since that fight Short Fuse is undefeated, and has stopped all of his opponents! Davis has not been a very active fighter since their last bout, but is rumored to be training hard for this rematch. In their last fight Davis overpowered Herman, but no one has done it since then, and Herman is eager to show Northwest fight fans how much his game has improved in less than a year! Herman’s most recent Sportfight win over Jason Flynn was easily one of the top mma fights this year.
The featured battle between light heavyweight sluggers “Ice Cold” Kyacey Uscola and Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman promises to be one fans will be talking about for a long time. Both superior athletes, these fighters appear to be evenly matched. They both won state wrestling titles, and both are known for brutalizing their opponents with strikes. In the last Sportfight, Burkman entered the ring and called Uscolla out after Uscolla knocked out the hard hitting “Wrecck.” The competitors are as curious as the fans for this one, so we can expect some Independence Day style fireworks when these two juggernauts clash!
In a night full of headliner-type fights the Sportfight Lightweight Title fight promises to stand out. Champion Dennis “The Piranha” Davis has returned victorious from Europe and will defend his belt against Washington State scrapper “Slick” Jeremy Saunders. Davis recently beat a top European fighter in Denmark, and has every intention of retaining his Sportfight Intercontinental belt.
Team Quest’s welterweight slugger Chris Wilson is also returning from success in Europe, and is taking on Victory Athletics’ brawler Eddie Ellis. This fight is an interesting match of an aggressive brawler versus a striking technician. Neither fighter prefers to take the fight to the ground so this fight has a high potential to end with a first round knockout!
Another notable fight features the return of Greg Piper after over a year off. Piper is facing Canadian Justin Tavernini in a fight that fans and students alike have been waiting for. Piper teaches classes at Team Quest and is a successful professional boxer reputed to hit like a guy fifty pounds heavier. Tavernini is representing Progressive Fight Academy and traveling from Alberta, Canada so we can expect that he does not intend to travel in vain.
Matt “El Suave” Horwich is determined to show that he is still the top light heavyweight contender after losing his belt in a decision to Glover “The Brazilian Pitbull” Texeira. Horwich has recently returned to his winning ways with a submission victory in Utah and is scheduled to fight Canadian Jason Day. Brendan Melendez is making his professional debut in Sportfight at he takes on Ray Pearales, and Troy “The Time Bomb” O’Conner is coming off a disappointing stoppage to face Trevor Burnell.
In Amateur action, Team Quest fighter Ryan Hart is facing OJJ’s David “Bling Bling” Brown in a middleweight fight that will surely have fans on their feet.
