Today on MMA Radio with Ryan Bennett, UFC President Dana White announced that they are very close to announcing a major tv deal where the UFC will air weekly fights similar to ESPN2's Tuesday Night Fights. Our sources indicate that the network in question is, in fact, Spike TV. This is the break that MMA has been looking for! Close the deal, Dana, so we can all celebrate!

I think it will. Most boxing fans love it once they see what it's all about. Also from personal experience I've converted a few old fans back by showing them the new UFC's. They said they where tired of the lay n pray fighting but that the new UFC was more exciting to watch. Once it's on a non PPV format I think we'll see good things.

I can't wait, do you realize how many people might be just flipping thru channels & see this sport for the first time & decide they like it?
Plus those who have heard the bad things about it, then find out it is nothing like they heard..... that's what I'm hoping for.
Dana said each time they put the ramp down, with the pyro, it was 60,000 dollars. So if they didn't use it at 44 or 45, the money saved went to help the tv deal.
I liked the ramp, but if it's a choice between that or a tv deal, I'll take tv. If the fan base grows, that could mean more money, maybe the ramp will come back then.....

DANA WHITE: "VERY CLOSE TO A TV DEAL..."
MMAWeekly Radio had UFC President Dana White on the airwaves to talk a lot about UFC 45, but the big news of the day was addressed by show host Ryan Bennett who asked point blank about the rumors of a possible TVdeal that has been reported on a few pro wrestling news sites.
White said quote "yes it is true. We are very, very close to signing a tv deal." White continued that the UFC has been very close to signing a TV deal in the past and even had a couple of handshake deals, but for whatever reason, the deal never was finalized.
This time around it appears that it is almost a done deal. White told Bennett quote "this would be a weekly show, like a Tuesday Night Fights show."
White didn't mention the networks that the show would appear on, but it's believed from a few wrestling reports that WWE President Vince McMahon gave "his blessing" that he didn't have a problem having the UFC on the same channel as Spike TV. There have been a few other reports stating that Fox Sports Network could also be a possibility.
