Which would you think is better suited for MMA style events?

well, in light of recent bouts, sambo. but any given fighter can turn it around.

It's Sambo hands down. Krav **** is almost exclusively for self defense. Though practitioners are more than able in striking and submissions. Sambo itself closely resembles the collective arts an MMA fighter puts together to compete. Reason guys like Fedor are so good.
I just wanted to see who knew or would acknowledge the two and could reply intelligently. It was another thread where Fedor was mentioned that gave me the idea. I mean with all the "EXPERTS" we have here on boxing scene I thought it would be a good convo.

i never trained in krav **** so i wouldn't be able to get too detailed in feedback. me and my buddy met some girl that trained in krav **** a few years ago and she swore up and down it was the most dominant fighting style. then he made fun of her really bad, she started crying, and he ended up ****in her an hour later.

        that's all i know about krav ****.

It's not practical as a competition martial art. It's set up to defend against multiple attackers, and attackers w/weapons. They are really good at disarming an attacker and have some good escape moves. Offensively it's not the best martial art in the world. The gym I boxed out of started getting into mixed martial arts adding Mhuay Thai and Gracie Barrera Jujitsu. There was this kid from Isreal who had practiced Krav and tried his luck against a Brown belt Jujitsu guy who was learning striking. The Jujitsu guy handed the Isreali his ass in about a min. Using striking first then pulling him to the ground and locking an arm bar. I wasn't impressed. Maybe the kid was exagerating how good his Krav was. That I don't know. He sure didn't sell it well that day.

And Sambo, well there is a reason Russias legendary spetznas use it.
The **** as a style is very interresting to me. It has deep roots and a long proven history. When you watch the competitions it looks like any "good" MMA fight. Very practical both as a competition style and for defense.

It's a military art designed for life or death confrontation, Sambo was designed for sport, so the sport wins in a sports competition.

Hi all, I'm a sop****re in high school and I lead a pretty busy life. I've wanted to take martial arts for a couple of years now, but my parents are saying that I don't have time and that I should be focusing on my schoolwork. They're also saying that I should just stick to swordplay fencing. However, it's not like I want to be a fighting champion. I just want to earn a black belt. How can I persuade my parents?

KM - i am not huge fan of. some of it looks nice, but i don't like the way they set up locks.

peatrova - tell them that doing martial arts is better than you doing drugs. they might like to hear something like that.

let them know it is character building and a great hobby that builds discipline.

sambo i definitely think is better fit. but, like every art, only the person is responsible for its success, not the art.

almost forgot - why the hell do you just want a black belt? you can buy a black belt for $5 from any martial arts supply store.

being a blackbelt does not mean a damn thing. that's why chinese arts, the traditional ones, don't even have ranking.
