    Starting MMA

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently training my ass off to fight my first MMA fight. i have previously boxing exprerience but never been in a cage.

Basically I have a club that is open 7 days a week, I have a choice of BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Karate and Judo.

What do you think is the best mix to train successfully for an MMA fight?

I am thinking of Boxing, BJJ and Muay Thai 4 or 5 times a week plus conditioning other times..

    any thoughts?

If you already have some boxing experience, I would say work on the ground so that would be BJJ. If you can work them all then fine, do that. If you dont work out ground game as much as standup your gonna get beat and tapped out(possibility)

Boxing, MT, BJJ, and werstling or Judo are a good combination. For your first fight, train cardio ALOT. I've seen alot of fights between young guys where cardio won the fight. I've seen guys lose Round 1 bad, but survive and then end up winning when the other guy gasses out.

the problem is, you cannot master an art while focusing on two or more arts at the same time.

of course, i practice chinese boxing, so i can recommend it as a great practical fighting system.

however, with your choices here, i would focus mainly on the judo and bjj since you have some boxing experience. another thing is, we don't know how much skill you have at boxing.

going for a knockout is best and optimal if you are anything less than very confident with your ground game. and if your standup is at least ok, you may really want to put the focus on judo(as the delivery system) and bjj(as the finisher).

personally, i'd say the best mix is training any style you have to cover every situation possible. so, it does not come down to style really. they are all the same in the end.
