I'd like to learn Jap, but having to learn a whole new writing system would make it a lot harder. The way it has no relation to English would make things difficult as well.

I started learning Spanish with downloaded audio tapes, they were useful. My only real problem when I went to Spain was when I went to get some food, and didn't know how to say "I want it to takeaway".
